Why We Don’t Always Price Match — and Why That’s a Good Thing
At A Sight for Sport Eyes, we believe in making top-quality eyewear accessible — but never at the expense of performance, integrity, or customer service. We often get asked why we can’t match the rock-bottom prices some other websites offer. Here’s the short answer: they’re not offering the same product, or the same level of service.
We’re happy to match prices — but only when it’s a true comparison. That means:
The same frame brand and model,
The same high quality brand name lens materials,
And a comparable company in terms of reputation, service, and standards.
We use independent sources like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to evaluate other sellers. A Sight for Sport Eyes currently holds an A rating, earned through years of reliable service, ethical business practices, and satisfied customers.
If another retailer has an F rating or dozens of unresolved complaints, it’s not a level playing field — and we won’t compromise our standards just to match a lower price. Thus, we will only match prices with companies who have an equal A rating.
B is not good enough for us. B usually means they still have some unresolved complaints. We know no company is free of complaints. But if you resolve them, you maintain your rating with the BBB. If you don't resolve all the complaints, then your ranking drops. B ratings may also mean there is a large volume of complaints. If you look at our BBB profile, you'll see we've only had a handful of complaints in our 30 years of business.
Another major difference is the lens quality — especially when it comes to eyewear that is safety-rated, such as those meeting ASTM or ANSI standards.
To put it in everyday terms, think about buying a TV. You can get a name-brand like Sony, Samsung, or LG, or you can get a brand you’ve never heard of for half the price. Sure, both might be called “4K,” but the quality, durability, and performance will be completely different — and it’ll show once you turn it on.
Eyewear works the same way.
We carry high-end, globally respected lens brands like Essilor, Hoya, and Zeiss — the Sony and Samsung of the optical world. Many lower-cost sites use unbranded or in-house lenses that aren’t held to the same optical standards. These are often “stock lenses” — mass-produced and pre-coated — which are cheaper because they’re mass produced with lower quality control standards.
These stock lenses may or may not meet minimum safety thickness required in the US. Other countries have different standards on lens thickness. The US requires a minimum 1.0 thickness for basic safety standards and thicker for safety products.
For instance, ASTM rated products, usually require a minimum of 2.0mm thickness and only in polycarbonate or Trivex lens materials. To get that minimum thickness, you can't use a stock lens. This has to be individually surfaced to meet safety standards. These lenses meet or exceed ASTM and ANSI safety standards, offering superior protection, clarity, and durability. They take more time and care to produce — and yes, that costs more — but it ensures your eyewear performs when it matters most.
If you are looking at a safety rated frame and you see the site offer CR-39 Plastic or High Index as lens options, that is a "tell" that these discounts sites are not giiving you properly safety rated lenses. CR-39 plastic is not safety rated and can easily shatter into small pieces making them very dangerous for sports activities. We only offer CR-39 lenses on inserts that go in behind a polycarbonate front lens for that reason.
In price matching, we will try to figure out what brand of lenses they are using in order to make sure that we are again comparing apples to apples.
We're not the cheapest — and we’re okay with that.
We use higher-end European lenses, not the lowest-cost imports.
We offer custom surfacing for more accurate, clearer vision.
We actually answer our phones, reply to emails, and make sure you’re happy.
We’ve been in business for over 25 years and stand behind what we sell.
That kind of service and quality costs more to deliver, but it saves you from issues with poor-quality products, incorrect prescriptions, or zero customer support.
We’re here for customers who value:
Trusted quality
Accurate, dependable eyewear
Helpful, human customer service
If another company offers the same product, materials, and support — with an equal BBB rating — we’ll absolutely consider a price match.
But if the only goal is to find the cheapest deal, we may not be the best option — and that’s okay. Many customers try the discount route first, then come back to us after experiencing the difference.
We’re here when you’re ready for something better.
